ANZ Summer Internship 2027/28 | Paid Internships in Australia and New Zealand

The ANZ Summer Internship 2027/28 is a paid summer internship at ANZ (Australia and New Zealand Banking Group) for university students in the second-last year of a bachelor’s or postgraduate degree. You don’t need a banking or finance background, so students from many disciplines may find it worth exploring.

ANZ is running two separate programmes for this intake. The Australian programme is based in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane, starts in November 2027 and lasts eight to ten weeks. The New Zealand programme is based in Auckland and runs in the Institutional division from November 2027 to February 2028.

Both are currently open only for early expressions of interest. An expression of interest is not a formal application. It registers your interest so ANZ can contact you when applications open. The two programmes have different timelines and eligibility wording, so this guide keeps them apart.

ANZ’s official pages confirm these benefits:

  • Real work experience. Interns work inside ANZ teams. In New Zealand, the Institutional programme introduces interns to specialist teams across institutional banking.
  • Support and connections. ANZ’s Australian page mentions a graduate buddy and a network of fellow interns. The New Zealand page mentions guidance and feedback from your manager and networking with graduates and managers.
  • A possible early graduate offer. ANZ says completing the Australian program may lead to an early offer for its 2029 Graduate Program. The New Zealand page says interns might receive an early offer for the next Graduate programme. Neither is guaranteed.

Students may also explore the Airbus Global Graduate Programme 2027 for another graduate opportunity.

Not published: salary or hourly rates, accommodation, flights, relocation support and visa sponsorship. Paid doesn’t mean fully funded.

Internship Areas

Australia

ANZ says it normally runs Summer Intern streams in:

  • Agribusiness
  • Finance
  • Institutional
  • Retail (listed as Australia Retail Banking on ANZ’s main intern page)
  • Technology
  • Business & Private Bank (listed on the main intern page only, not on the expression-of-interest page)

These are the usual streams, not confirmed vacancies for 2027/28. Job titles and the location for each stream haven’t been published.

New Zealand

The 2027/28 New Zealand programme is in Institutional banking. ANZ’s general NZ intern page says interns may work in relationship banking, transaction banking, global markets, global loans, or client insights and solutions. ANZ says it welcomes people from all disciplines.

Eligibility Criteria

Australia

ANZ’s Australian Summer Intern page says you should be:

  • A citizen of, or hold permanent residency in, Australia or New Zealand
  • In your penultimate (second-last) year of a bachelor’s or postgraduate degree

You don’t need a banking or finance degree. ANZ says it looks for people who are digitally savvy, data literate and able to learn from setbacks. These are qualities it values, not formal entry tests. Final-year students and recent graduates are directed to the Graduate Program.

New Zealand

ANZ’s general New Zealand intern page says you should be:

  • A citizen of New Zealand or Australia, or hold permanent residency in New Zealand
  • In your penultimate year of a bachelor’s or postgraduate degree

The wording differs from the Australian page, so check the page for the programme you’re targeting.

International students: ANZ’s stated criteria cover only citizens and permanent residents. It doesn’t address temporary visa holders. Contact ANZ before applying if that applies to you. A minimum GPA isn’t specified for the Australian program.

Required Documents

  • Expression of interest: ANZ’s pages say to click Apply now and submit your details. No documents are listed, so don’t assume a CV or transcript is needed.
  • Formal application, Australia: Not yet published.
  • Formal application, New Zealand: ANZ’s general NZ intern page says no CV or cover letter is needed. It isn’t specific to 2027/28.
  • After selection: Not published for either programme.
