Fully Funded Benefits of the SI Scholarship 2027
According to the official Swedish Institute page, the scholarship includes:
- Full tuition fees: SI pays your tuition directly to your Swedish university every semester.
- Monthly allowance: You receive SEK 12,000 per month to cover living costs for the whole study period.
- Travel grant: You get a one-time payment of SEK 15,000. Scholars from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine receive SEK 10,000. Students already living in Sweden do not get this grant.
- Professional network: You join the SI Network for Global Professionals (NFGP), which runs leadership and career activities in Sweden.

What the SI Scholarship Does NOT Cover
Many websites claim the scholarship includes insurance. That is not true. According to the Swedish Institute, the scholarship does not:
- Include any insurance. Instead, ask your university what cover it offers international students.
- Give extra money for family members.
- Pay the application fee at University Admissions.
- Allow you to change your master’s programme.
- Allow extensions or changes to the scholarship period.
So, if you plan to bring your spouse or children, budget for them yourself.
SI Scholarship for Global Professionals 2027 Requirements and Eligibility
To apply, you must meet all of these conditions set by the Swedish Institute:
- Be a citizen of one of the 34 eligible countries. You do not need to live there when you apply.
- Apply for an English-taught master’s programme on SI’s eligible list.
- Be liable to pay tuition fees in Sweden. (SI then pays those fees if you win.)
- Pay the University Admissions application fee on time.
- Be admitted, or conditionally admitted, to an eligible programme on the first admissions day.
- Have work experience and leadership experience.

Work Experience Requirement (3,000 Hours)
The rule depends on your country:
- 28 countries (Bangladesh, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Egypt, Ethiopia, Guatemala, Indonesia, Iraq, Jordan, Kenya, Liberia, Malaysia, Mexico, Morocco, Nigeria, Peru, Philippines, Rwanda, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, Thailand, Uganda, Uzbekistan, Vietnam, Zambia): you need at least 3,000 hours of work experience before 8 February 2027.
- Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine: you need proof of work experience, but there is no minimum number of hours.
Full-time work, part-time work, freelancing and running your own business all count. Moreover, you do not need a job at the time you apply.
How to Count Your 3,000 Hours
First, list every job you have had. Next, multiply your weekly hours by the number of weeks you worked. For example, a 40-hour week adds up to 3,000 hours in about 75 weeks, which is roughly 18 months full-time. Keep in mind that the 3,000 hours can come from three employers at most. Also, work related to your chosen field of study gets priority.
Leadership Experience
SI also asks for leadership experience. For example, this can mean leading colleagues, allocating tasks, influencing strategy or taking part in decisions. It can come from a job, your own business or a civil society group. There is no minimum number of hours. However, SI gives priority to strong leadership experience from employment.
Who Is NOT Eligible
According to the official call, you cannot apply if you:
- Study at, or hold a degree from, a Swedish university.
- Have lived in Sweden for two years or more in total before August 2027.
- Have already received an SI scholarship for studies in Sweden.
- Hold Swedish or EU/EEA citizenship, a Swedish permanent residence permit, or a residence permit based on work or family ties in Sweden.
- Hold dual citizenship of a country that is not on the DAC list (the OECD’s list of countries that receive development aid).
- Work in the public sector in Georgia or Belarus.
There are two exceptions. Ukrainians living in Sweden under temporary protection can still apply. Likewise, Moldovans who also hold Romanian citizenship can apply with their Moldovan citizenship.
Finally, if you hold two eligible citizenships, apply with only one. SI disqualifies every application from anyone who applies twice.
Is Pakistan or India Eligible for the SI Scholarship 2027?
No. Pakistan and India are not on the 2027 list of eligible countries. Pakistani students won the scholarship in earlier years, so many old articles still list Pakistan. Swedish Institute Scholarship Acceptance Rate: Be Realistic About Your Chances
The SI Scholarship is one of the most competitive awards in Europe. In the 2026 round, according to the official SI recipient list:
- SI received 12,922 applications.
- Only 6,666 applicants were admitted to an eligible master’s programme.
- SI selected 189 scholars and placed 27 on a reserve list.
In other words, roughly 1.5% of all applicants won. Even among admitted applicants, the success rate was under 3%. Therefore, apply to other scholarships at the same time. Also, remember that SI notifies only successful applicants.
Required Documents
SI publishes the 2027/2028 application documents and templates on 13 November 2026. Until then, the full list is not confirmed on the official page. Based on the official criteria, expect to prepare:
- Your University Admissions application details for eligible programmes.
- Proof of work experience on the official SI template forms.
- Proof of leadership experience.
- A CV (check the official format on 13 November).
- A passport copy showing your citizenship (not confirmed on the official page).
Your university documents (degree, transcripts and English test results) go to University Admissions, not to SI. Each university sets its own English requirement, so check your programme page. SI does not say anywhere that IELTS is waived.

- Are a citizen of one of the 34 eligible countries.
- Have about 18 months or more of work experience and some leadership role.
- Want a master’s in governance, public health, entrepreneurship, innovation or a STEM field.
- Have a clear plan to use your degree for sustainable development in your home country.
On the other hand, if you are a fresh graduate with no work history, this is not the right scholarship for you yet.
How to Apply for the SI Scholarship for Global Professionals 2027
The application has two separate parts. You apply to the university first, and then to SI.
- Check your eligibility: Confirm your citizenship, work hours and leadership experience against the official criteria.
- Choose eligible programmes: SI publishes the list of eligible master’s programmes on 13 November 2026. Pick only programmes from this list.
- Apply on University Admissions: Submit your master’s application at universityadmissions.se between 16 October 2026 and 15 January 2027. Pay the application fee on time.
- Prepare your SI documents: Download the new templates after 13 November and collect proof of your work and leadership experience.
- Submit the SI scholarship application: Log in to the SI application portal at apply-scholarships.si.se and apply between 8 and 24 February 2027. The portal closes at 14:59 CET on 24 February.
- Wait for results: University Admissions announces admission results on 1 April 2027. After that, SI announces scholarship winners on 22 April 2027.
- Accept your offer: Winners receive an official offer by email by the end of April 2027. Accept it before the deadline stated in the email.
